Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club (MVBGC) was awarded funding to support the Cleaner, Greener, Safer Club Campaign to accomplish critically needed facility repairs and upgrades to its Edgartown Clubhouse. With grant support, MVBGC replaced the gym floor, new doors were installed between the gym and the new Games Room, new emergency exit doors were installed, windows were replaced in staff offices, and the gym is now fully functioning and providing essential athletic and program space for Club youth and the community. The renovation work was essential to the delivery of quality programs and services for Island children of all ages, to prepare them for healthy and productive lives. Now, in its 80th year, MVBGC serves over 130 members per day and over 500 youth per year, who participate in a variety of after-school programs including academic, health, prevention education, creative arts, technology and recreational sports. In addition, MVBGC’s gym is utilized by partner organizations, serving an additional 3,000 youth and adults from the community. MVBGC services are affordable with a $20 annual membership fee, enabling the children who need us most to participate. Children from all six elementary schools on the Island attend the Club. Additionally, MVBGC offers an affordable Summer Camp.
